293 On Komba - Madagascar

HOTEL OVERVIEW

A simple, laid-back yet comfortable and charming boutique guest house consisting of 4 bedrooms on the beautiful Nosy Komba island, run by South African Marcine, whose passion and warm hospitality gives guests a home-from-home island adventure. The rustic guest house is surrounded by a gorgeous mix of beaches and lush rainforests - truly a little piece of paradise!

All the simple bedrooms are designed for comfort and relaxation, and are furnished with bedding and bath towels. Of the 4 rooms, 3 are located in the main house (but boast separate entrances) whilst the 4th is free-standing and positioned as the honeymoon suite. The bathrooms offer showers only, but all do have hot water available. If you looking for a rejuvenating holiday where you can relax and let your hair down without worrying too much about the pretensions of the modern world, this is the ideal destination.

The pristine beach on which 293 on Komba is situated is just steps from the lodge, and rest assured you can expect safe swimming and stunning snorkelling on a reef which is about 100 meters offshore, where you will often encounter sea turtles! The tiny island also boasts untouched tropical forests which can be explored via hiking routes.

The island of Nosy Komba is a volcanic island, between the mainland of Madagascar and Nosy Be island, and we’d best describe it as a “secluded destination”, perfect for the ultimate tropical getaway, with 293 on Komba offering characterful accommodations instilling a sense of utter serenity. Good to note that there are no roads on the island, putting you in touch with nature to get from A to B when it comes to exploring - but don’t let this deter you, because we highly recommend taking tranquil walks down the beach, and you might just find yourself on the other side of the island! Nosy Komba is in fact a hub for tropical activities. During the day, you can head to the nearby village of Ampangorina, tour the picturesque mountain ranges of the island, or embark on a whale watching safari, where you’ll perhaps be met by dolphins, sea turtles and whale sharks. Spend your day relaxing while catching exotic fish or immerse yourself in the excellent scuba-diving opportunities offered by the coral reef rich seas of the archipelago. Exploring the underwater coral forests of Madagascar is an unmissable experience, the thriving sea-life make you feel as if you stepped into another world.

From Nosy Komba, you can canoe your way to the neighbouring islands, where you can enjoy picnics while bathing in the warm tropical sun. At the end of your day, venture back to the guest house where you’ll be met with platters of fresh seafood and other delicious cuisines. Your room overlooks either tropical gardens or the beach, giving you a chance to relax in luxury, while still enjoying the natural gems of Madagascar.

Useful Info

  • What To Pack

As a guide, the maximum weight for checked luggage is 20kg in economy class and 30kg in business class. Your hand-luggage should not weigh more than 6kg and needs to be small and compact.

Take along your best beach and casual wear, perfect for the day. A light rain jacket might come in handy in the event of the occasional rain shower. Sunglasses and suntan lotion are a must. Flip flops, sun hat and a beach bag. If you’re planning on adventuring around the area (there’s so much more to see and do outside of your lodge/hotel!) be sure to pack a pair of comfy walking shoes, and lots of suncream!

  • Take Your Own

Don’t forget any medication that you might need, and be sure to pack it in your hand luggage.

Chargers for all your devices (it’s a good idea to take along a few movies on a tablet or something similar as the English TV channels in your hotel may be limited).

Take along your own goggles & snorkels – even though some properties have this equipment available free of charge or to hire, you’ll probably be happier having your own.

Mosquito repellent. An underwater camera is a great idea.

  • Travel Tips

Pack a change of clothing in your hand luggage in case of baggage delays (and a spare cozzie so at least you can have a swim when you get to your final destination). No sharp objects are permitted in your hand luggage (yes, tweezers are sharp!). Put electronics, medication, toothbrushes and jewellery in your carry-on bag.

Travel insurance is a must. If you can’t afford it, you can’t afford to travel! Travelling with kids – please check that you have all the relevant documents including unabridged Birth Certificates.

It’s often a good idea to let your bank or credit card company know that you’re going overseas.
