Mauritius is so much more than a beautiful Indian Ocean Island located off the South East Coast of Africa. It’s the bright colours of its Frangipani flowers that give off the most magical scent, it’s the smiles and friendly personalities of the local creole people, it’s the freshness of a Phoenix beer after a long “tough” day on the beach and the smell of the fresh Biryani being cooked along the streets of Grand Baie, but most importantly, it’s an Island that you never want to leave, because your soul is happy and your memory bucket is over flowing.
Having lived on the Island of Mauritius for three consecutive years, I have honestly been able to experience the Island from both the point of a Tourist and an expat/student, and whilst being a tourist is most certainly more luxurious (as in most countries), being an expat/student was one of my greatest pleasures and joys of adulthood. I met so many exceptional people and learnt so much from local cultures and traditions.

Passport Control:

How to get around the Island:
If you have ever travelled to this Island, you will most certainly be able to vouch for the warmth and friendliness of the local Taxi drivers, who often going out of their way to make you feel welcome. Many tourists find themselves chatting with drivers who are eager to share local tips, recommendations for attractions, and even insightful advice on hidden gems that aren't always on the typical tourist radar (I could probably compile a short story on all the great tips and restaurant’s I’ve learnt from some of the fantastic drivers I have met along the way). Their knowledge of the island’s culture and history can be incredibly valuable, making the journey not just a ride but an experience. However, it's always a good idea to double-check details and itineraries with your hotel concierge, ensuring everything aligns with your plans and preferences.
Adult Only Properties
Whilst Mauritius is commonly known as the perfect family destination (which it absolutely is), it should be noted that the Island boasts SO many Adult only properties or Adult only wings that are the absolute perfect gem for those adults looking for a more private and peaceful escape, or the perfect honeymoon destination.
Beachcomber - Victoria for Two
Modern, trendy and a total vibe are three (or maybe four) words that totally sum up this adult only wing at Beachcomber Victoria Resort and Spa. Situated along its own private stretch of beach this wing offers a total of 17 luxury swim up rooms along which are fantastic for couples who plan on lounging in the sun with the nearby comfort and privacy of their room. The rooms draw on many elements of local Mauritian culture which can be seen through the art work and some of the pieces of furniture which is a beautiful tribute to the local culture found around the Island.
This wing is also home to the lovely Morris beef restaurant that has a menu as wide as your cravings. They’ve just updated their menu, so I wont spoil all the surprises, but let’s just say, their salads are definitely worth a try (You can thank me later).
Guests who are booked into the Adult Only wing do also have access to the many other restaurants found around the property and can be encouraged to try them too. The property also has a spectacular Italian restaurant for all you foodies!
Victoria for Two is a tranquil escape that certainly steals the heart.
Veranda Paula & Virginie Hotel and Spa
Veranda Paul & Virginie Hotel and Spa offers the perfect blend of relaxation and rejuvenation, making it an ideal destination for a mom and daughter trip, a honeymoon, or simply a peaceful adult retreat. The resort is set along a peaceful stretch of beach on the Islands North coast.
For moms and daughters, this property is the perfect chance to unwind and enjoy peaceful beach days and spa treatments at the amazing 7 colours Wellness experience. Couples on honeymoon can enjoy romantic dinners near the sea and romantic sunset walks.
It should also be noted that whilst this hotel is a boutique hotel and is on a smaller and more intimate scale it does offer a variety of very impressive activities that caters for everyone.
The spa at Veranda Paul et Virginie is truly exceptional, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it. The treatments are based on colour therapy, where guests choose a colour upon arrival, each representing different chakra energies. This unique experience is not to be missed and offers a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating journey for the mind, body, and spirit.

Le Meridien Ile Maurice
The Nirvana Wing at Le Méridien provides a perfect escape for adults looking to relax and take in the stunning beauty of Mauritius' northwest coast. With sleek, modern rooms, the property offers a luxurious and comfortable stay. The breakfast is one of dreams, leaving a lasting impression. While I didn’t have the chance to try the properties Asian-inspired restaurant, the stylish layout and interior design suggest that it’s an experience not to be missed!

Beachcomber Trou Aux Biches Resort and Spa
Honey, I’m home! Beachcomber Trou Aux Biches Resort and Spa is the ideal family escape for a family looking for the ultimate luxurious escape. LUX* Grand Gaube
This modern and trendy property is A firm favourite from me. From the hospitality right down to the AMAZING coffee, I can firmly say that LUX* Grand Gaube has my heart. The property features a wide variety of restaurant’s with one even being located in and amongst a Banyan tree (BB’s) and another being located overlooking the most magnificent views of the bay (Bodrum Blue), this property has some amazing amenities for families such as the in house cinema, tennis courts and the latest “Hug me honey” experience where clients get to visit the properties hives to understand the importance of bees in our eco – system, taste test the honey, and ( This is the best part) craft a honey based cocktail and make a body scrub. Guests can also indulge in a honey pairing dinner if this is up their alley. How awesome is that?
LUX* Grand Baie
Just Wow. Set in the heart of Grand Baie, this iconic property is truly a feast for the eyes. For those of you who appreciate design, art and architecture (Oh and of course, an Island escape) this is most certainly the property for you. Every detail has been thoughtfully crafted and beautifully executed. The rooms are the epitome of modern elegance, with lighting systems that are top notch. The restaurants are totally Instagram worthy too. The Spa has the most incredible hydrothermal bath journey that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and like a million dollars. PS: Their rooftop Bar has the most spectacular views of Grand Baie and should definitely be visited.
