Antoremba Lodge - Madagascar
HOTEL OVERVIEW
One can’t help but fall in love with this gorgeous and secluded lodge, nestled on a picture-perfect golden beach south of Nosy Be. The boutique property boasts charming wooden beach bungalows literally just steps from the sea, and a lush rain-forest as the backdrop. It’s the perfect spot to really chill out and relax on your comfy sun lounger on the beach, whilst turtles pop their heads out of the water - quite surreal! The food is also well worth a mention, lunches and dinners are imaginative and totally delicious!
There’s something really special about arriving by boat at a beach lodge that feels somehow more exotic than a road transfer could ever be. As you motor closer, the lodge’s spectacular position reveals itself gradually – a collection of wood and thatch bungalows backed by lush rainforest and lining a stunning golden sand beach framed by 2 prominent rocky headlands and sloping gently into a gorgeously calm and azure ocean. Whilst cruising in by boat, be sure to keep an eye out for pods of dolphins which often pass serenely by, just off the shore.
Talking of the beach, it’s definitely one of the stars of the show here – a cozy feeling 150 metre long stretch of sand that’s bookended in beautiful fashion by 2 rocky headlands. You really do get that glorious feeling of almost complete isolation here, with just the odd fishing boat passing by to remind you that you’re not completely cut off from civilization. You reach Antoremba by way of a 25 minute boat journey south from Nosy Be to this isolated peninsula that’s actually part of the Madagascan mainland – but the irony is that it feels far more “island-ey” than the much busier Nosy Be ever does!
We also absolutely love the fact that the beach bungalows are literally just a few steps from the ocean. There are 6 seafront bungalows all decorated with traditional Malagasy materials and local woods such as rosewood and teak. The rooms are housed in pairs in 3 semi-detached wood and thatch bungalows – they’re quite simple but blend beautifully into their surroundings. You’ll no doubt love their sense of airiness and space as well as the gorgeous wooden floors and clever hand-crafted adjustable wooden shutters (which allow the cooling breezes in perfectly), as air-conditioning is obviously not on the menu here (with the lodge being run on solar energy) , but a welcome on-shore breeze comes up consistently every afternoon to keep things cool and comfortable. A couple of the bungalows have inter-leading doors which make them perfect for families with kids.

What To Pack
As a guide, the maximum weight for checked luggage is 20kg in economy class and 30kg in business class. Your hand-luggage should not weigh more than 6kg and needs to be small and compact.
Take along your best beach and casual wear, perfect for the day. A light rain jacket might come in handy in the event of the occasional rain shower. Sunglasses and suntan lotion are a must. Flip flops, sun hat and a beach bag. If you’re planning on adventuring around the area (there’s so much more to see and do outside of your lodge/hotel!) be sure to pack a pair of comfy walking shoes, and lots of suncream!
-
Take Your Own
Don’t forget any medication that you might need, and be sure to pack it in your hand luggage.
Chargers for all your devices (it’s a good idea to take along a few movies on a tablet or something similar as the English TV channels in your hotel may be limited).
Take along your own goggles & snorkels – even though some properties have this equipment available free of charge or to hire, you’ll probably be happier having your own.
Mosquito repellent. An underwater camera is a great idea.

Travel Tips
Pack a change of clothing in your hand luggage in case of baggage delays (and a spare cozzie so at least you can have a swim when you get to your final destination). No sharp objects are permitted in your hand luggage (yes, tweezers are sharp!). Put electronics, medication, toothbrushes and jewellery in your carry-on bag.
Travel insurance is a must. If you can’t afford it, you can’t afford to travel! Travelling with kids – please check that you have all the relevant documents including unabridged Birth Certificates.
It’s often a good idea to let your bank or credit card company know that you’re going overseas.
