Meliá Hotel Zanzibar
HOTEL OVERVIEW
Straddling warm turquoise waters and pristine sands, Meliá Zanzibar offers an alternative Indian Ocean retreat, on an island still less discovered than the likes of the Maldives or Mauritius. A secluded location sees guests cocooned within the resort’s peaceful surrounds, yet Zanzibar’s buoyant capital is within easy reach. Meliá Zanzibar is a luxury beach all-inclusive resort situated on the north-east coast of the exotic island of Zanzibar, in Tanzania, also known as the “Spice Island”.
The resort hugs the northeast coastline of the island, roughly 45 minutes drive from Zanzibar’s international airport and capital city, Stone Town. Set back from the main coastal road, there’s a feeling of isolated calmness, although most of the island’s popular tourist spots, such as its famed spice plantations, are easily accessible by car in under an hour.
Meliá Zanzibar is built on a 40 acre estate with a beautiful beach of pearlescent white sand lapped by warm ocean waters, 300 meters long, situated at the very end of the property to procure the perfect combination with nature. Guests will find sharp, clean, almost Ibiza-esque design at the latter, where spotless white cabanas huddle around an infinity pool and turquoise sofas in the lounge mirror the Indian Ocean opposite. Throughout the resort, an easy style connects to the beachside location, with blues aplenty, stretches of sea-worn wood and undulating motifs intended to reflect the patterns in the nearby sands.
The resort is ringed by a natural coral reef, making bathing a relaxing and safe experience, and heading out for a snorkelling excursion has never been so easy and beautiful!
A stellar spa is inspired by Out of Africa author Karen Blixen. Palm fronds just beyond the windows cast shadows across treatment rooms and the real-world ebbing of the tide can be heard over a typical New Age soundtrack. Staff are attentive and friendly, which is a particular plus when they’re frequently called upon to buggy guests back and forth across the resort’s enormous footprint and a little conversation goes a long way.

What To Pack
As a guide, the maximum weight for checked luggage is 20kg in economy class and 30kg in business class. Your hand-luggage should not weigh more than 6kg and needs to be small and compact.
Take along your best beach and casual wear, perfect for the day. A light rain jacket might come in handy in the event of the occasional rain shower. Sunglasses and suntan lotion are a must. Flip flops, sun hat and a beach bag. If you’re planning on adventuring around the island (there’s so much more to see and do outside of your hotel!) be sure to pack a pair of comfy walking shoes, and lots of suncream!
-
Take Your Own
Don’t forget any medication that you might need, and be sure to pack it in your hand luggage.
Chargers for all your devices (it’s a good idea to take along a few movies on a tablet or something similar as the English TV channels in your hotel may be limited).
Take along your own goggles & snorkels – even though your resort will have this equipment available free of charge or to hire, you’ll probably be happier having your own.
Mosquito repellent. An underwater camera is a great idea.

Travel Tips
Pack a change of clothing in your hand luggage in case of baggage delays (and a spare cozzie so at least you can have a swim when you get to your resort). No sharp objects are permitted in your hand luggage (yes, tweezers are sharp!). Put electronics, medication, toothbrushes and jewellery in your carry-on bag.
Travel insurance is a must. If you can’t afford it, you can’t afford to travel! Travelling with kids – please check that you have all the relevant documents including unabridged Birth Certificates.
It’s often a good idea to let your bank or credit card company know that you’re going overseas.
