Paradise Cove Boutique Hotel - Mauritius

HOTEL OVERVIEW

This recently renovated romantic adults-only boutique hotel with thatched love nests, a cliff-top infinity pool overlooking the northern islands and 'you&me' activities attracts couples of all ages. There's also a Cinq Mondes spa, four-poster beds in plantation-style rooms, and a choice of four restaurants. On a man-made cove on a less touristy part of the north coast, with a view of the Northern Islands. Plenty of beaches, excursions and buzz are found five km away at Grand Baie, and it's close to cultural attractions, Le Château de Labourdonnais, Pamplemousses botanical garden and L'Aventure du Sucre.

Painted a restful white, the hotel encircles a pretty, if small, manicured man-made cove. It’s designed with romance in mind: the property is scattered with thatched love nests, swing beds and more than 100 sunbeds and a winding sandy path through sculpted gardens leads to a lovely cliff-top infinity pool overlooking the Northern Islands. It's a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and was voted the Indian Ocean's Leading Boutique Hotel at the World Travel Awards 2019 (for the third year running).

Now in the style of a Mauritian plantation home, with an iced Mauritian tea station (flavoured with vanilla) and all-day rum bar, touches of whimsy range from Toucan patterned wallpaper at the entrance to flower mandalas in the garden.

Staff at this five-star hotel, many here since the opening in 1992, are efficient and caring – nothing is too much trouble. Free activities include water-skiing, stargazing and yoga. You&Me moments include sailing by pirogue to Ile aux Bernaches, for snorkelling and a picnic, there's a PADI Dive Centre, and 'Beauty Rituals of the World' at the expanded Cinq Mondes spa, one of five on the island. The three pools include a small lap pool and there are seawater hot tubs in a waterfall tumbling into the cove.

Useful Info

  • What To Pack

As a guide, the maximum weight for checked luggage is 20kg in economy class and 30kg in business class. Your hand-luggage should not weigh more than 6kg and needs to be small and compact.

Take along your best beach and casual wear, perfect for the day. A light rain jacket might come in handy in the event of the occasional rain shower. Sunglasses and suntan lotion are a must. Flip flops, sun hat and a beach bag. If you’re planning on adventuring around the island (there’s so much more to see and do outside of your hotel!) be sure to pack a pair of comfy walking shoes, and lots of suncream!

  • Take Your Own

Don’t forget any medication that you might need, and be sure to pack it in your hand luggage.

Chargers for all your devices (it’s a good idea to take along a few movies on a tablet or something similar as the English TV channels in your hotel may be limited).

Take along your own goggles & snorkels – even though your resort will have this equipment available free of charge or to hire, you’ll probably be happier having your own.

Mosquito repellent. An underwater camera is a great idea.

  • Travel Tips

Pack a change of clothing in your hand luggage in case of baggage delays (and a spare cozzie so at least you can have a swim when you get to your resort). No sharp objects are permitted in your hand luggage (yes, tweezers are sharp!). Put electronics, medication, toothbrushes and jewellery in your carry-on bag.

Travel insurance is a must. If you can’t afford it, you can’t afford to travel! Travelling with kids – please check that you have all the relevant documents including unabridged Birth Certificates.

It’s often a good idea to let your bank or credit card company know that you’re going overseas.
