Ravenala Attitude - Mauritius
HOTEL OVERVIEW
The name, ‘Ravenala’, is the first taste of tropical exploration, as it refers to the traveller's tree (or traveller’s palm) – easily spotted here thanks to its fabulous, fan-shaped collection of long leaves. Located deep inside a huge exotic garden between Lemon River (Rivière Citron) and Turtle Bay, Ravenala Attitude subtly blurs the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living, inviting you to enjoy the lush vegetation as much as its suites’ contemporary style.
The young team on the ground are friendly and enthusiastic, and activities and services are conveniently at the touch of a button in public areas. Three huge pools compensate for a small swimming area in the sea, and guests have free access to beach volleyball, sea/river kayaking, laser/sailing dinghy, paddle boarding, windsurfing, water-skiing, snorkelling and glass-bottomed boat trips, and more uniquely, floating bikes. There's a dive centre and wedding gazebo. Mauritian experiences include cookery, sega music and Creole language classes, dining in a local home and 'otentik discovery', a self-guided app with insider tips to explore the local area. Massages at the spa, inspired by the island's elements, are delivered in adorable white wooden cabins.
The 272 sleek, spacious suites set in white Colonial-style villas with deep grey railings with generous balconies, are unfussy with woven rattan bedheads, and black-and-white prints of Mauritian life. Most are Garden View, or River View (quieter), and couples often get upgraded to Family suites, outside of holidays. The most expensive 40 Executive Seafront suites in an adults-only wing are most coveted by couples, with Nespresso machines, balcony hammocks, assigned sun loungers and a beach butler, plus exclusive access to Lime for dinner, a sushi restaurant on the beach.
Ravenala's 'dine around' experience offers 10 distinctive options, from Asian to Italian, and even has a floating restaurant, Riviera (with supplement). Buffet breakfasts are followed by a barbecue or Mauritian street food served from Taba-J, lime-coloured trucks beachside, and the beach barbecue has a prawn festival on Monday and lobster night on Friday. Dinner favourites include The Bistrot, whose modern, meaty menu features teriyaki pork ribs with pumpkin soufflé, gourmet burgers and romantic tables in the pool; and Kot Nou, a tiny Creole-style house with sun-yellow roof and ravenala-lined walls serving 'granmama’s recipes' by candlelight. Also popular is sushi restaurant, Lime, by the beach (with supplement). Book restaurants on arrival, or you won't get in.
Entertainment includes a live local band at dinner, and six bars, from an elegant piano bar to a beach bar with swing seats and a guitarist under the palms. For those inclined, there's daily all-night drinking and dancing at nightclub, After.

What To Pack
As a guide, the maximum weight for checked luggage is 20kg in economy class and 30kg in business class. Your hand-luggage should not weigh more than 6kg and needs to be small and compact.
Take along your best beach and casual wear, perfect for the day. A light rain jacket might come in handy in the event of the occasional rain shower. Sunglasses and suntan lotion are a must. Flip flops, sun hat and a beach bag. If you’re planning on adventuring around the island (there’s so much more to see and do outside of your hotel!) be sure to pack a pair of comfy walking shoes, and lots of suncream!
-
Take Your Own
Don’t forget any medication that you might need, and be sure to pack it in your hand luggage.
Chargers for all your devices (it’s a good idea to take along a few movies on a tablet or something similar as the English TV channels in your hotel may be limited).
Take along your own goggles & snorkels – even though your resort will have this equipment available free of charge or to hire, you’ll probably be happier having your own.
Mosquito repellent. An underwater camera is a great idea.

Travel Tips
Pack a change of clothing in your hand luggage in case of baggage delays (and a spare cozzie so at least you can have a swim when you get to your resort). No sharp objects are permitted in your hand luggage (yes, tweezers are sharp!). Put electronics, medication, toothbrushes and jewellery in your carry-on bag.
Travel insurance is a must. If you can’t afford it, you can’t afford to travel! Travelling with kids – please check that you have all the relevant documents including unabridged Birth Certificates.
It’s often a good idea to let your bank or credit card company know that you’re going overseas.
