The sound of the sea is ever-present at this Cubist, adults-only hotel, which overlooks a marine reserve on the northwest coast near Grand Baie. It's great value, with recently refreshed rooms, traditional Mauritian food and convivial sunset mojitos on bean bags under lantern-lit beach parasols. On a quiet, narrow strip of white sand beach overlooking a marine reserve, in the sleepy fishing village of Pointe aux Piments, a five-minute walk from the Mauritius Aquarium. The beautiful swimming beaches of Trou aux Biches and Mon Choisy are around a five-minute drive away, while Grand Baie and the capital Port Louis are both a short bus ride. Early birds can glimpse dolphins playing offshore, a truly beautiful sight to see.

This couples-oriented three-star occupies several white, low-rise, Cubist-style buildings linked by wooden boardwalks. The hotel stretches along the beachfront, overlooking a lagoon-like rock pool. It has a casual, 'boutique' vibe, and a well-executed local flavour. Staff, mostly from the village, are friendly and caring but discreet. Facilities include a small slate infinity pool overlooking the sea, bikes, and a sea-facing spa with free hammam, and treatments using local almond, coconut and vanilla. Complimentary snorkelling and glass-bottomed boat trips give the chance to glimpse 40 species of fish spotted on the reef close to shore, and there's a dive centre nearby.

Three restaurants and one bar offer drinking and dining beside or on the beach, with a focus on Mauritian cuisine. The beachfront Pointe aux Piments offers Mauritian lunch classics such as cari de poulet (chicken curry) – featured in the chef's twice-weekly cooking class and a nightly themed buffet. Upstairs, you'll find Attitude’s signature restaurant, Kot Nou, serving Creole-style 'Grandma's cooking' in home-style surrounds, complete with sundowners on the terrace. A lime-coloured cart, Taba-J, serves Mauritian street food at lunchtime. Mauritian specialties such as salted crêpes with chutneys feature alongside western-style waffles at the buffet breakfast. Food allergies are catered for, including gluten-free diets.
