Shanti Maurice - Mauritius

HOTEL OVERVIEW

This all-suite and villa romantic-but-informal boutique hotel is set in mature tropical gardens on a horseshoe-shaped cove in the unspoiled 'wild' south. An award-winning spa and gastronomic experience makes it popular with couples and families, and it's also safe and friendly for spa-going singles.

The hotel stands between the sugar cane and the sea in a private, peaceful spot on a natural beach between Blue Bay Marine Park and Le Morne. Activities in the surrounding area include trekking in Black River Gorges National Park and climbing Le Morne Brabant. The hotel offers guided cycling to the Vortex or the market at Chemin Grenier and snorkelling in scenic Blue Bay.

This innovative southern belle, with 61 suites and villas spread along the beachfront in 36 acres of tropical gardens, was born as Shanti Ananda, the island's first destination spa. With 25 cabins, the award-winning Shanti Spa is still one of the regions' largest, and offerings include Ayurveda and africology, and alternative health workshops. Spa packages, offered outside peak times, range from stress management to sleep therapy. It also has a wedding pavilion.

The personable staff exude a genuine friendliness and hospitality. The informality rubs off on guests, who can be seen sharing a joke over breakfast. Along with a wide array of watersports – including stand-up paddle-boarding and kitesurfing, and a PADI Dive School, it has two floodlit tennis courts, a putting green and unlimited green fees at new 18-hole golf course, Avalon Golf Estate, within a half hour drive.

This package is based on Half Board Basis

Useful Info

  • What To Pack

As a guide, the maximum weight for checked luggage is 20kg in economy class and 30kg in business class. Your hand-luggage should not weigh more than 6kg and needs to be small and compact.

Take along your best beach and casual wear, perfect for the day. A light rain jacket might come in handy in the event of the occasional rain shower. Sunglasses and suntan lotion are a must. Flip flops, sun hat and a beach bag. If you’re planning on adventuring around the island (there’s so much more to see and do outside of your hotel!) be sure to pack a pair of comfy walking shoes, and lots of suncream!

  • Take Your Own

Don’t forget any medication that you might need, and be sure to pack it in your hand luggage.

Chargers for all your devices (it’s a good idea to take along a few movies on a tablet or something similar as the English TV channels in your hotel may be limited).

Take along your own goggles & snorkels – even though your resort will have this equipment available free of charge or to hire, you’ll probably be happier having your own.

Mosquito repellent. An underwater camera is a great idea.

  • Travel Tips

Pack a change of clothing in your hand luggage in case of baggage delays (and a spare cozzie so at least you can have a swim when you get to your resort). No sharp objects are permitted in your hand luggage (yes, tweezers are sharp!). Put electronics, medication, toothbrushes and jewellery in your carry-on bag.

Travel insurance is a must. If you can’t afford it, you can’t afford to travel! Travelling with kids – please check that you have all the relevant documents including unabridged Birth Certificates.

It’s often a good idea to let your bank or credit card company know that you’re going overseas.
